Karol G took home the award for Song of the Year at the 2025 Latin Grammys, winning for her chart-topping hit “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido.” But the moment meant more than that, and the celebrated singer used her speech to stand up against critics and haters, encouraging those watching to chase their dreams no matter what people say.
As she accepted the trophy, Karol made sure to let her peers in the category know how much she loved their music this year. She specifically shouted out the Argentine duo Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso for their track “#Tetas,” saying it warmed her heart.
Then she asked the Academy not to cut her off so that she could say a few words and began speaking to the criticism she faced this year after releasing her record, Tropicoqueta.
“Lately, everyone has an opinion, lately a lot of professional people have an opinion of what people should and shouldn’t do, what they should and shouldn’t like, how they should dress, what they should do, what they do,” she said. “In a certain way, I started to feel like nothing I was doing was good and like I was losing my magic, like I was losing the wonder. This happened during a strange time in my life and the only thing that was left from all of that for me was to go back to the root and the intention and return to the purpose of what I’m doing because I love it, because I like it, and because I was born for this.”
She continued, “I say this because there are so many people at home who think they’re not good enough or professional enough to do what they want. Forget the world, forget the noise… love and passion over talent, and passion and obsession for what you do.”
Karol had three nominations this year including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Tropical Song. Her Song of the Year, one of the most coveted awards of the night, was her one win. In 2023, she took home Album of the Year for her LP, Mañana Será Bonito.
