Lana Del Rey Announces New Album ‘The Right Person Will Stay’

Did you know there’s a Lana Del Rey album on the way? The singer-songwriter has finally set a release date for her 10th studio album: originally titled Lasso, Del Rey’s next album will now be called The Right Person Will Stay and is slated for a spring release on May 13.

The singer took to Instagram to share the news. “So grateful that my 13 tracks came together with my beautiful work between Luke Jack and Drew Erickson amongst other,” she wrote in a post. “Happy for you to hear a few songs coming up before Stagecoach,” she added, revealing her first single to be “Henry.” Previously, Del Rey teased that two singles from her forthcoming LP would arrive before the end of the year.

Since February 2024, the singer has been teasing a country-inspired project that was supposed to be released in September. At a Billboard pre-Grammy event, Del Rey detailed the original album concept, saying “If you can’t already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country… We’re going country. It’s happening. That’s why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years.”

Del Rey clarified her sonic vision for the album in her August interview with Vogue. “All my albums are somewhat rooted in Americana… so I don’t think it will be a heavy departure,” she told the magazine. “If anything, it will just be a little lighter lyrically, and more pointed in a classic country, American, or Southern Gothic production — which again, so many of my songs already are,” the singer added.

After Lasso was not released in September, Del Rey gave an update at the Instyle Imagemaker Awards in October. “I think all the songs have been Americana and I want to wait to see what the musical atmosphere feels like,” she told People. “‘Cause I don’t usually feel like I need a pause in the creation process, but if there’s a literal energetic pause that almost feels like physical, then I have to wait and I don’t know why.” She also shared her intentions to take her time with the album’s release, adding, “The songs I have, I love, so I don’t want to turn it into something that’s half cooked, even if it’s super stripped back. I want it to be what it was supposed to be.”

Even with a different name, The Right Person Will Stay will undoubtedly be country à la Lana with the singer’s previous producers Jack Antonoff and Drew Erickson signed on to produce along with country producer Luke Laird.

Since Lasso turned into The Right Person Will Stay, Del Rey also underwent a huge life event when she got married to Jeremy Dufrene, an airboat captain for alligator tours. If the title change is any indication of the topics Del Rey will explore on the album, it’s sure to be another romantic one.
