“I can’t stop pinching myself,” the country star wrote after singer-songwriter Craig Morgan invited him via video message on The Joe Rogan Experience
Jelly Roll broke down in tears after receiving an unexpected invitation to join the Grand Ole Opry during his interview on The Joe Rogan Experience.
Rogan surprised the country star with a video message from singer-songwriter Craig Morgan, a longtime friend and Opry member. In the message, Morgan recalled their first meeting at the Opry and said how honored he was to learn that his music had helped Jelly Roll “get through some really tough times.”
Morgan continued: “That’s one thing country music does really well. Who would have ever dreamed I’d be back at the Opry House today to say … Jelly Roll, you are officially invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. It’s an honor to say, ‘Welcome to the family, brother.’”
Fighting back tears, Jelly Roll spoke about his relationship with Morgan and seeing him perform live for the first time at the Opry while still wearing an ankle monitor following his release from prison. But excitement soon took over as the reality of the honor sunk in. “I bet I’m the first person to ever get invited to the Grand Ole Opry on a podcast!” Jelly Roll exclaimed.
On Instagram, Jelly Roll wrote alongside a clip of the interview, “I’m honored beyond words and I can’t stop pinching myself. To everyone at the Opry, y’all are like family to me. To Craig Morgan, no matter how many times I say it i’ll never be able to tell you enough how much this has all meant to me.”
Jelly Roll’s official Opry induction date will be announced soon. The musician has performed at the famed institution numerous times over the years, making his debut in 2021, and then joining Morgan onstage for a special performance the following year. Just last month, he performed his hit song, “I Am Not Okay” at the Opry alongside kids from a local elementary school choir.
