Christian Nodal, Angela Aguilar, Cazzu Relationship: A Timeline

Christian Nodal and Ángela Aguilar’s whirlwind relationship has arguably been the main source of gossip in Mexico all year. Dubbed by some tabloids as the “most hated couple” in the country, the pair of música mexicana stars have faced quite a few challenges navigating their quick-building romance in the public eye.

Their connection began in 2018 after Nodal joined the Aguilar family on the road for their iconic Jaripeo Sin Fronteras tour. At the time, Aguilar was 15 and Nodal was 20, reeling after the success of his debut album, Me Dejé Llevar. Aguilar, for her part, was continuing the legacy of her grandpa Antonio Aguilar and her dad Pepe with her ranchera LP, Primero Soy Mexicana. In 2022, Nodal went on to date the Argentine rapper Cazzu. In May of this year, they announced they were separating, just months after Cazzu gave birth to their daughter. Nodal and Aguilar went public with their relationship the same day, which instantly sparked allegations of infidelity (both Nodal and Aguilar have denied cheating rumors.)

From Aguilar and Nodal’s performance together in 2019 to Instagram Live statements and shocking interviews, here’s a complete timeline of the relationship triangle that has everyone talking.

About a year after Christian Nodal joined the Aguilar Family’s Jaripeo Sin Fronteras tour, Nodal, 20, and Aguilar, 16, reunited to perform classics “Volver, Volver” and “Cielito Lindo” at the 2019 Premios Juventud alongside Pipe Bueno.

In the middle of the pandemic, Nodal and Aguilar delivered “Dime Cómo Quieres,” co-penned by Nodal and Edgar Barrera, which quickly became a hit. The song hears the musicians flirting as Nodal bounces ideas of how to make Aguilar fall for him, as Aguilar ironically sings, “My friends don’t like you, and much less does my family.”

“When you record a duet well you have that human interaction and a lot of your facial expressions are a reaction to what the other person is doing,” Aguilar told Billboard. “But here, I was singing to a green screen and a guy from our production team who pretended to be Nodal.”

2020-2022 – Christian Nodal and Belinda have a whirlwind romance

When Nodal and Belinda crossed paths as coaches on La Voz México, their budding relationship was meant to be the Gwen Stefani-Blake Shelton of Mexico. But their love story only lasted two years. After meeting on the show in 2020, the pair confirmed their relationship shortly after when Nodal wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post, “The unexpected doesn’t need an explanation.” The pair got engaged in May 2021, and by February 2022, they split. “I always try to take care of my heart, but it inevitably hurts a lot,” she wrote on Instagram.

Sept. 2022 – Cazzu makes a cameo in Kany Garcia, Nodal video for “La Siguiente”

Shortly after confirming they were expecting a baby together in early 2023, Nodal released a track titled “Cazzualidades,” a play on the word “casualidades” or “coincidences.”

Sept. 2023 – Cazzu and Nodal welcome their baby, Inti

On Sept. 14, 2023, the former couple announced that they had welcomed a daughter together, named Inti. They shared a photo on social media of the baby’s tiny hand.

“All I want is for them to be happy while being a great human being and doing what they love to do. If that brings them fame or not, that doesn’t matter to me,” he told Rolling Stone days before the baby was born. “If they want to dedicate themselves to music, of course, I’ll give them all the tools that I know for them to be the best artist possible. No matter what they want to dedicate themselves to, I’m open to it.”

May 2024 – Nodal and Cazzu announce their breakup

After two years of dating, and less than nine months after welcoming their baby, Nodal released a statement, reshared by Cazzu, announcing that they had split.

“I am deeply grateful for the moments we shared and will always carry those memories fondly. I appreciate your support and understanding during this time of change,” he added.

The same day of the split announcement, Nodal and Aguilar appeared onstage together during a performance of “Dime Como Quieres” that included a kiss and a declaration from Aguilar: “Eres mi novio!

In June, Nodal shared a video addressing infidelity rumors between him and his former partner, Cazzu. In the post, he said he was now “living a precious experience with a woman I love,” about Aguilar, but shared that he greatly respects and “loves” his ex.

“Our cycle together ended in the best way possible,” Nodal said in the video of Cazzu. “In that relationship, there was never a third party or infidelity. Sometimes, love doesn’t work out.”

He confirmed the blossoming of his relationship with Aguilar, describing the connection as “precious.”  He said, “That took years to happen. And we’re enjoying life together.”

June 2024 – Cazzu breaks her silence

After near-constant headlines about Nodal’s new relationship with Aguilar took over Latin media, the Argentinian star shared a statement online, writing that she was “OK [and] going through it in the best way possible.”

“I chose to step away from social media to detox and focus on my baby, who is my priority, and on my work while everything calms down out there,” Cazzu wrote in Spanish, “Life is not totally beautiful or totally horrible, nor are people completely 100 percent good or bad, there are always grays and shades but the important thing is to breathe and resist with love the necessary processes and learn.”

July 2024 – Nodal and Aguilar get married

Things between Nodal and Aguilar moved rather quickly. Just over a month after confirming their relationship, the pair of musicians walked down the aisle at a private ceremony in Mexico.

Sharing family photos from the wedding, Ángela’s father Pepe wrote on Instagram, “And everything will always make sense. I sincerely hope that your love is one of those that does.  In an interview with ABC News Live on Oct. 17, Ángela Aguilar addressed speculation surrounding her marriage to Nodal and the tabloid fodder that circulated.

“I think that people are being villainized and I think people are being badly portrayed. I think that they’re not putting our characters where they should be,” she said. “I don’t think they even know 5 percent of the story they’re trying to tell.”

“The only thing I can say about it is all the parties at hand are together and united,” Aguilar said. “We’re all on the same page and no one’s heart got broken, you know, we have a clear consciousness.”

Oct. 2024 – Cazzu say she’s “suffered a lot”

In an interview with Argentinian outlet PLP, Cazzu revealed that she learned of Nodal and Aguilar’s relationship “like everyone else did,” through social media.

“I was not aware they had a previous relationship,” she told the outlet. “When he left me, he left me for a different reason. I even asked if there was someone else and he said no.”

She added: “I was obviously surprised because I had met her. I thought it wasn’t true, but it turned out that it was.”

Cazzu even responded to Aguilar’s claim that “no one’s heart got broken” when she and Nodal got together. “I suffered a lot and more than one heart was broken. It was a painful process,” Cazzu said. “I handled it with respect above all because I have a daughter who has a father who will always be her father, but I want to set an example for her that when things cross a line, you have to set limits.”

Nov. 2024 – Nodal: ‘I was never unfaithful’

On Nov. 1, Christian Nodal went on a 30-minute Instagram Live to insist he didn’t cheat, he just “fell out of love.”

“I don’t want to speak for anyone but myself. We ended things on good terms. We agreed to disagree. We were on the same page — that the love is over. I was never with anyone else while I was with Julieta,” he said, referring to Cazzu by her real name. “We had already broken up, and I told her, ‘Hey Julieta, we should issue a statement because I’m going to start seeing someone publicly, and I don’t want things to get messy.’ And that’s how it all happened.”

Nodal emphasized that Aguilar was “never my lover” during his relationship with Cazzu, adding that it made him “very sad and angry” to have to address infidelity rumors.”
