There’s a hidden significance to the title Ella Langley picked for her new album, Dandelion.
It doesn’t matter how closely you listen to the lyrics or how big of a fan you are: Until you hear her explain it, you’ll never pick up on what it is.

But once you understand it, the whole album will make a lot more sense.
What Is Ella Langley’s Song “Dandelion” About?
The title track is important on this project. During a recent stop on This Past Weekend With Theo Von, Langley said that “Dandelion” is the oldest song on the record.
It actually almost wound up on the track list for her 2024 album Hungover, but she decided to hold it back, because it had the sound and lyrical themes she wanted to dig into more on her next project.
In the lyrics, Langley compares herself to a dandelion — “born to live free, ridin’ on a breeze” — as opposed to a more classically beautiful flower like a rose.
Dandelions are often considered weeds, and similarly, Langley says she’s sometimes been overlooked. But they’re also resilient, colorful, homey and they don’t have any of those pesky thorns.
But that autobiographical song is just part of the reason why Langley chose Dandelion as the name for her album.
What Is the Secret Meaning Behind Ella Langley’s Dandelion?
Langley tells Von that at a certain point in making the album, she learned that dandelion tea is often used as a liver detox.

“When I heard that, it was like a lightbulb went off over my head. It was like, ‘Oh my God, a record called Dandelion after a record called Hungover,'” she says. “It’s like, you’re just growing up.”
Langley knew that she wanted to use her next record to explore healing and growth after the heartbroken, boozy Hungover.
But it wasn’t until “Dandelion” popped up that she found a visual metaphor to tie the whole concept together.

“The context was like, I’m growing and I’m not just doing debauchery every day of my life,” she explains, before joking, “Maybe just on Tuesdays.”
No spoilers here — but personal growth will be a prevalent theme when Langley shares her full album on Friday (April 10), even though early releases including “Choosin’ Texas” and “Be Her” aren’t necessarily the best examples of it on the track list.
