“I got regrets, you heard about some of them,” Smith admits on the track
Will Smith and Joyner Lucas have released a new single, “Tantrum.” The collaborative track, co-produced by Lucas and Leo Son, is intended as “a letter to Will and Joyner’s inner children… still recovering from the difficulties of the past.”
“I’m about to face all this shit I been runnin’ from/ You might relate to the places I’m comin’ from,” Smith raps on the track. “I been through trauma I thought I’d recover from/ I got regrets, you heard about some of them.”
The duo dropped the single alongside an animated music video created by Cartuna Cartoon and directed by Lucas and Matthew Bordenave. It features cartoon versions of the two musicians as they face a series of obstacles, from being stuck in the middle of the ocean to falling out of a skyscraper to climbing mountains in the desert.
“Tantrum” marks Smith’s third new track of the year following “You Can Make It,” featuring Fridayy and Sunday Service Choir, and “Work of Art,” featuring Russ and Jaden Smith. The rapper debuted “You Can Make It” during the BET Awards in June, making a rare live appearance.
“Through some of my darkest moments, music has always been there for me — to lift me and help me grow,” Smith wrote on Instagram ahead of the song’s release. “It’s my humble wish that it can do the same for you and bring you all the joy and light you deserve.”
Smith, who recently performed a pair of shows in San Diego at the Observatory North Park, is set to headline France’s Positiv Festival next year. The actor-rapper will perform July 31 at the Roman Theatre of Orange located in southeast France, marking his first performance in the country.
The actor’s decision to step out of rap retirement follows his infamous appearance at the 2022 Academy Awards where he slapped Chris Rock, before accepting his Best Actor Oscar later that evening for his role in King Richard. Following the incident, Smith starred as a runaway slave in 2022’s Emancipation, and earlier this year returned to the big screen for Bad Boys: Ride or Die, alongside Martin Lawrence.
