Thomas Rhett took some time out of his show on Friday night (Aug. 14) to pay tribute to his sister-in-law, who he says is “cancer-free” after battling the disease since just after the turn of the year.
Is Thomas Rhett’s Sister-in-Law Battling Cancer?
She has been.
The 36-year-old country superstar was performing at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, N.Y., Friday night when he addressed the audience before performing “Life Changes.”
Jessica Buono works for Taste of Country’s parent company, Townsquare Media, co-hosting the Waking Up With CJ and Jess morning show on The Wolf in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and she was at the show at Bethel Woods.
“He said he’d been dedicating the song recently to his kids, but he was going to do something different this time,” she tells us.
Rhett then dedicated the song to Macy, saying she had fought cancer “like a dadgum champion.”
“Two days ago was her birthday, and on her birthday, she found out that she was completely cancer-free,” Rhett says proudly in the fan-shot video below:
Macy was first diagnosed with cancer in February of 2026, according to Us Weekly.
She shared a hopeful update in July, revealing that she had just completed chemotherapy.

“The happiest day,” she wrote to accompany a video compilation of her last treatment.
“I’m officially D O N E with chemo!!!!! Those words feel so surreal to say. I know the road ahead is long with surgery and much more than likely radiation, but I have so much peace knowing the Lord has gone before me.”
She thanked those who have been with her throughout this process and shared how her walk with God has changed along the way — even expressing gratitude for a difficult season.
“All of this to say, I’m SO grateful. Like beyond grateful for this experience thus far,” Macy affirmed. “Cancer has completely changed me and has forced me to rely on God with every ounce of my being.”
“I FEEL the Holy Spirit tangibly, and it’s a feeling I just can’t describe, and one I want EVERYONE to experience. It just gets me so. fired. up.”
Sadly, Rhett’s far from the only country star whose family has been touched by cancer.
