Karol G Documentary Set for 2025

Bichota season continues. Karol G will share her inspiring story in a Netflix documentary next year.

The Colombian superstar announced the news with an Instagram post. “A story born from dreams that seemed impossible, fueled by unwavering faith,” Karol G wrote in the caption. “My life, my work, my truth, and the powerful connection I share with you all,” she continued, referring to her fans. She went on the call the documentary a “dream come true.”

While there is no title yet, Netflix described the documentary in a statement as “an intimate portrait of a global music icon” that promises to portray “the woman behind the artist.” It will be directed and produced by Cristina Costantini, who also produced Netflix’s documentary on famed astrologer Walter Mercado. Additional producers include This Machine in association with Interscope Films and Bichota Films.

Karol G’s successful career has been more than a decade in the making. Since she was 14, the singer has been carving out a music career through auditions for the Colombian version of The X Factor, indie label deals, relentless touring, and lots of hustle. The singer finally rose to mainstream fame in 2016 when she signed with Universal Music Latino. Just a few years prior, the same label had turned her down as a reggaeton act because she was a woman, instead offering her a deal as an in-house songwriter.

Despite multiple setbacks, Karol G has cemented herself as one of the most influential reggaeton stars and broke a dizzying number of records along the way. Recently, she became the first woman to win two consecutive Latin Grammys for Best Urban Music Album and the first musician to get her own Bratz doll.

In her 2023 Rolling Stone cover story, Karol reflected on her success, saying, “I imagined that I was going to accomplish a lot of things in my life, but really, I never imagined it’d be to the point that it is today. To reach so many people, touch so many people in so many different aspects — it still blows my mind.”
