For six seasons, the show Nashville had both country music fans and drama lovers in its palm.
The series was a fictional adaptation of the world of country music. Or, as IMDB describes it, “the lives and tragedies of rising and fading country music stars.”
Nashville centers around Rayna Jaymes, an aging country singer whose popularity is starting to fade as her core audience gets older. She is forced to work with a young rising star, Juliette Barnes, who is looking to shed her pop music stereotype in order to be taken seriously as a singer-songwriter.
As could be anticipated, the two don’t get along, and a power struggle ensues.
Nashville‘s Original Country Music
If you’re gonna do a show about Nashville’s music-making ways, you better write some songs. Showrunners knew this could be the secret sauce, so original country music was written specifically for the show. In addition, the actors who portrayed these musicians also performed the songs themselves.
Music from each season was compiled onto albums, oftentimes multiple volumes per season. The Best of Nashville compilation project was released following the end of the series in 2018.
Real Country Star Cameos on Nashville
The brilliance behind the show also included the appearances of real country artists. Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Thomas Rhett, Chris Young and several others made cameos on Nashville. This made the plot even more believable.
