Morgan Wallen Drops ‘Love Somebody,’ a Heartbreak Song With Bite

Morgan Wallen‘s new song “Love Somebody” is his most pop-friendly radio single to date. The breezy breakup song builds off of “7 Summers” from 2020.

Lyrically, “Love Somebody” has a bit more bite and covers more territory. The first verse finds the singer snapping back at a broader community with the Will Smith-esque “Can’t keep my name out they mouth” line.

  • “Love Somebody” and “Lies Lies Lies” are the first two releases from an upcoming Morgan Wallen project.
  • His biggest solo hit on the Billboard Hot 100 is “Last Night,” which reached No. 1.
  • One Thing at a Time is Wallen’s most recent studio album, released in 2023.

Then he pivots to a longing for real love that builds him up: “Honest eyes that just ain’t gonna leave,” he sings to close a second verse focused on the type of person he’d like to bring home to mama.

There’s a mind-blowing nine co-writers on “Love Somebody,” including several people known for DJ and production work primarily.

Somehow the track still breathes — an instrumental break is certainly unexpected — and despite (potential) pop intentions, it relies on the cry of steel guitar throughout the chorus.

Wallen and Post Malone have mastered a progressive brand of country music that lives right on the edge of a sound sure to anger purists.

“Love Somebody” doesn’t explore any new lyrical territory — it remains to be seen if Wallen can sing about heartbreak too much — but the packaging is fresh and updated.

Morgan Wallen, “Love Somebody” Lyrics:

Rumors goin’ all over town / Can’t keep my name out they mouth these days / Yeah, they say / I live too fast to settle down / Truth is I just ain’t about these games / They all play.

Wanna find / Somethin’ stronger than the whiskey / And oh, I’ve tried / But every time I feel her kiss me, I keep comin’ up empty.

Chorus:
I just wanna love somebody / Who won’t leave a hole in my heart / I just wanna love somebody / That don’t want me fallin’ apart / And I’d be lucky if I ever find a somethin’ more than just a crazy night / I just wanna love somеbody…

Who ain’t hypnotized / By dollar signs and blindin’ lights / Like they tеnd to be, yeah / I need someone that I’d be proud / To take on back to my hometown / Honest eyes that just ain’t gonna leave.

To lonely nights / Even when she’s up against me / I don’t know why / It feels like there’s nobody with me / And I’m still empty.

Repeat Chorus

I just wanna love somebody.

Repeat Chorus
