Bruce Springsteen will appear alongside former President Barack Obama and Vice President Kamala Harris at a massive rally in Atlanta, Georgia, on Oct. 24, kickstarting a series of ‘When We Vote We Win’ shows in the seven major swing states during the closing days of the campaign.
A second event will take place Oct. 28 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with Springsteen and Barack Obama. According to a senior campaign official, additional ‘When We Vote We Win’ rallies will be announced in the coming days. They are likely to hit Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, North Carolina, and Nevada.
Earlier this month, Springsteen officially endorsed Kamala Harris in a video taped at a diner in Freehold, New Jersey. “Perhaps not since the Civil War has this great country felt as politically, spiritually, and emotionally divided as it does at this moment,” Springsteen said. “It doesn’t have to be this way. [Kamala Harris and Tim Walz] are committed to a vision of this country that respects and includes everyone, regardless of class, religion, race, your political point of view or sexual identity, and they want to grow the economy in a way that benefits all, not just a few like me. On top, that’s the vision of America I’ve been consistently writing about for 55 years.”
Springsteen largely avoided politics throughout the Seventies, Eighties, and Nineties. In 2004, however, he endorsed Senator John Kerry and campaigned with him across America. “I wanted to remain an independent voice for the audience that came to my shows,” Springsteen told Rolling Stone in 2004. “We’ve tried to build up a lot of credibility over the years, so that if we took a stand on something, people would receive it with an open mind.”
Springsteen campaigned with Obama in 2012 during his reelection campaign, and appeared at a 2016 Hillary Clinton event in Philadelphia. The pandemic made it impossible for him to campaign for Joe Biden in 2020, but he did perform at the Lincoln Memorial on the evening of his inauguration.
