Lil Durk was arrested in Broward County, Florida, and is currently being held without bond on a pending murder-for-hire charge.
According to records from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the Chicago rapper — real name Durk Devontay Banks — is being held in Broward County jail on behalf of the U.S. Marshals Office.
A rep for Banks did not immediately return Rolling Stone’s request for comment.
Banks’ arrest in Florida comes after five other Chicago natives — Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston — were arrested and charged with murder-for-hire and murder-for-hire conspiracy, according to the Chicago Tribune. The charges are connected to the 2022 murder of Quando Rondo’s cousin, Lul Pab, born Saviay’a Robinson, in Los Angeles. All of the suspects have ties to Chicago’s hip-hop group OTF.
Banks previously faced several charges related to a 2019 shooting, but those were dropped in 2022. Along with attempted murder, the rapper was facing counts of aggravated assault, participation in criminal street gang activity, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The non-lethal shooting took place on Feb. 5, 2019, and police originally claimed that video footage showed Banks driving past the Varsity and firing a gun (the victim was hit in the leg). Several months later, warrants were issued for the arrest of Banks, as well as his co-defendant at the time, the now-deceased rapper King Von. After the warrant was issued, Banks said on Instagram that he planned to turn himself into authorities, while he also dropped a song, “Turn Myself In,” in which he rapped about “false accusations” and proclaimed his innocence.
Last month, Banks celebrated on social media that his record had been cleared. “My background wiped and clean of all cases,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “I ain’t a felon anymore. Who would have thought? I want to thank everyone who helped push my vision forward. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
