Liam Payne Death: Posthumous Single Release Postponed

Sam Pounds, who collaborated with Payne on the song, said he changed his mind out of respect for Payne’s family

Two days after announcing plans to release a single featuring contributions from Liam Payne, who died earlier this month, musician Sam Pounds has changed his mind. “Today I’m deciding to hold ‘Do No Wrong’ and leave those liberties up to all family members,” he wrote on social media. “I want all proceeds go to a charity of their choosing (or however they desire).

“Even though we all love the song it’s not the time yet,” he continued. “We are all still morning [sic] the passing of Liam, and I want the family to morn [sic] in peace and in prayer. We will all wait.”

On Monday, Pounds released presave links for “Do No Wrong,” which he intended to issue Friday. “I pray that this will be a blessing to the world like Liam has always dreamed,” he wrote on social media then. The announcement followed a video Pounds posted of him with Payne that was shot by Payne’s sister, Ruth Gibbons. He claimed in other videos that he and Payne “made some awesome and beautiful music together that will live on forever.” Pounds has since deleted his original posts, though artwork that looks like it could sit on the cover of a single was still online at publication time.

Payne released only one solo album in his lifetime, LP1, which came out in 2019. A new single, “Teardrops,” came out in March. Payne had been teasing plans to release new music. The status of the unreleased music, other than “Do No Wrong,” is currently unknown. The release of a Netflix series that featured Payne, titled Building the Band, is reportedly on hold, according to The U.S. Sun.
