Lisa of Blackpink Announces Debut Album ‘Alter Ego’

The singer showcases five new personas in a new clip

Lisa is revving up her au-au-au-au-aura, with the announcement of her debut album Alter Ego. She announced the album, set to release Feb. 28, in a teaser video Tuesday.

In the new clip, she uses each point of a star, a popular emblem repurposed throughout her album campaign, to reflect five varying characters. The Thai artist catwalks through a star-filled galaxy, lies in a meadow filled with butterflies, and rides a Harley along a Tron-inspired passageway as hit singles like “Rockstar,” “New Woman” featuring Rosalía, and “Midnight Floor,” her latest single released last month, soundtracks the video.

The Blackpink star previously hinted at the album announcement via a cryptic countdown on her website and in a snippet of the album teaser posted on X.

The album news follows her five-city “fan meetup” throughout Asia, which wrapped in Hong Kong Tuesday. Lisa graced an American stage in October as the opening performer of an all-female lineup at the 2024 Victoria Secret Fashion Show. Similar to the imagery featured in her album teaser, Lisa began her performance suspended on a motorcycle before singing “Rockstar.”

In the coming year, Lisa will make her acting debut and star in the third installment of White Lotus, Mike White’s satirical vacation drama, as an employee at a luxury resort in Thailand. In a Rolling Stone interview with South African singer Tyla, Lisa discussed her jumbled feelings of excitement and nerves ahead of the show’s release.
