The song marks Peso’s first new music since releasing Éxodo back in June
Peso Pluma is finishing off the year with a bang, releasing his new single “Gervonta” on Thursday evening. The track marks Peso’s first new recording since releasing his fourth album Éxodo earlier this year.
“Gervonta” seems to be named after the boxer Gervonta Davis, who shared the artwork for the single on his Instagram story Thursday evening. As is typical for Peso, he sings about his elevated, money-flaunting lifestyle, talking about buying shiny watches and flying on private jets.
The song caps a whirlwind 2024 for Peso, who’s only skyrocketed further since going mainstream with “Ella Baila Sola” last year. Rolling Stone named that song the best song of 2023. Since then, he graced the cover of Rolling Stone’s Future of Music Issue back in March, released Éxodo in June, and was listed as one of the 10 most-streamed artists in the world on Spotify earlier this week. Éxodo was nominated for a Grammy for Best Música Mexicana album back in November, Peso’s second-ever nomination. He’ll go against Carín León, Chiquis, and Jessi Uribe.
Peso one of the brightest stars to come out of a surging música mexicana scene that’s driving much of the growth in an equally buzzy Latin music market. “I’m proud to wave my flag up high and to be the first to do a lot of things — to be able to show my roots and where we’re from and what we like to listen to and what we do,” Peso told Rolling Stone earlier this year.
