Nearly three weeks after family and friends mourned the late One Direction star Liam Payne at a funeral service in England, his girlfriend Kate Cassidy paid tribute to the musician in a social media post featuring video clips from their two-year relationship. Cassidy and Payne blow kisses, watch fireworks, fight over snacks, and embrace one another in a 90-second TikTok video posted Sunday, with the caption “I love you.”
Cassidy previously paid homage to Payne in an Instagram post, sharing a heartfelt note that Payne had given to her a few weeks prior.
“It said, ‘Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged and together forever 444,” Cassidy wrote. “Liam, I know we’ll be together forever, but not in the way we had planned. You’ll always be with me. I’ve gained a guardian angel.”
Payne died on Oct. 16 after falling from the third story of the CasaSur hotel in Palermo, a neighborhood within Buenos Aires, Argentina. Payne suffered multiple traumas, including internal and external bleeding, in the aftermath of the fall. A friend of Payne, a hotel worker, and an alleged drug dealer have been charged with supplying Payne with drugs twice before his death, according to the prosecutor’s office in Buenos Aires. Prosecutors also identified alcohol, cocaine, and a prescribed antidepressant in his system, following a toxicology report.
Several celebrities attended his private funeral in Amersham, England: One Direction members Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson; Simon Cowell; James Corden; Jamie Scott; Rochelle Humes; and Cheryl Cole, who shares a seven-year-old son with Payne. Fans of Payne lay roses and remembrance letters to the late star at vigils and memorials across the globe during the days and weeks following his death.
Cassidy’s tribute follows a slew of artists who have honored the late star since his death. Bandmate Malik dedicated his song “iT’s YoU” to Payne while performing in Payne’s hometown of Wolverhampton, England, and Rita Ora shared an emotional homage to Payne during the MTV Europe Music Awards last month. Shawn Mendes also dedicated one of his latest singles “Heart of Gold” to Payne during a Brooklyn performance in October.
