AT&T Laying Off 138 Americans: Here’s Why

As companies take a look under the hood at their 2024 Q4 numbers and plan for 2025, some are finding some fat to trim and areas where they can save money, even at the cost of laying off hard-working Americans.

According to JaxToday.org, AT&T just announced a major slate of layoffs in their Florida offices. They will be eliminating 135 customer service jobs, as well as three executive-level jobs.

AT&T said, “We’re undergoing targeted workforce reductions and focusing on growth and areas as part of our regular view of support where needed.”

AT&T’s wireless network is the largest in North America, according to the company’s website, and its fiber internet serves more than 27.8 million total consumer and business locations.

In August of 2024, according to Jacksonville Daily Record, 17,000 members of the Communications Workers of America, including workers at Florida location, went on strike against AT&T.

That strike lasted almost one month, and then it seemed as if things had settled. Now, AT&T is giving the employees who are facing layoffs until March 22, 2025, to find another position with AT&T or face termination.

“Reducing our workforce is a difficult decision that we don’t take lightly,” AT&T adds in its statement. “We make every effort to do this through attrition, voluntary departures, and reskilling efforts, but there are times like this when additional reductions are necessary. Eligible employees will be provided severance pay and benefits.”
