Lucy Dacus Previews New Album With ‘Ankles’ and ‘Limerence’

2025 is officially the Year of Lucy Dacus. The singer-songwriter, fresh off her massive, Grammy-winning success with boygenius, will release the new solo album Forever Is a Feeling, out March 28 via Geffen Records.

To preview the album, Dacus shared two excellent new tracks: “Ankles” and “Limerence.” The former is a sexually-charged stunner, in which she sings over a euphoric string arrangement, “What if we don’t touch?/What if we only talk about what we want/And cannot have/And I’ll throw a fit?”

Dacus also released a video for “Ankles,” which you can catch below. She stars as a Parisian painting come to life, walking the streets of France before she’s called to return to the confines of her frame.

“Limerence,” in contrast, is a twinkling tender ballad, in which Dacus sings about eating popcorn while her friend hits a blunt. “I’m thinking about breaking your heart someday soon,” she sings over piano. “And if I do, I’ll be breaking mine, too.”

While the official track list has yet to be revealed, we now have a sense of three songs on the album, including the gem she premiered at her bandmate Julien Baker’s solo show last fall (its title is still unknown). She recently posted a casting call for its video, writing, “If you are smooth or suave or pretend to be. Maybe you’re a hot masc. Maybe you are simply willing and able and not afraid to be on camera. Use this sound with a video of yourself looking cool and my team will reach out from this account by next week with more info.”

The cover of Forever Is a Feeling features an ethereal painting of Dacus by Will St. John. On her chest is a tattoo of the album title, which she subtly revealed in an Instagram post last fall. The album features her boygenius bandmates Baker and Phoebe Bridgers, as well as Hozier, Blake Mills, Bartees Strange, Madison Cunningham, Collin Pastore, Jake Finch and Melina Duterte (a.k.a. Jay Som).

Forever Is a Feeling marks Dacus’ fourth album, following her 2021 masterpiece Home Video, which just landed on Rolling Stone‘s list of the 250 Greatest Albums of the 21st Century So Far. The album reflected on her upbringing in Richmond, Virginia. “I’m so far from that person now that I think that’s why I’m able to write about it,” she told us at the time. “It’s important to have tenderness for your past self, if you can, because there’s so much that you didn’t choose.”

Next month, Dacus will play four intimate sold-out shows in Brooklyn (Feb. 18), Chicago (Feb. 20), San Francisco (Feb. 22), and L.A. (Feb. 24). She’ll embark on an official Forever Is a Feeling tour the following month, kicking off in Philadelphia, PA at the Met on April 16. The trek wraps back in Los Angeles at the Greek Theatre on May 14.

Muna’s Katie Gavin will support Dacus on tour; tickets go on sale Jan. 24. Dacus will donate $1 per ticket to Los Angeles wildfire relief via PLUS1.
