The musician originally promised the deluxe version of Lana, which itself is the deluxe edition of SOS, would arrive on Jan. 6, but its release was delayed and has since been moved to Feb. 9
SZA is ready to share the extended edition of Lana — for real this time. The musician previously announced the expanded version of the release, which itself functions as the deluxe edition of SOS, in late December with plans for an early January arrival. A series of delays followed, but the new songs are now expected to be released on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. EST.
The release date announcement arrived quietly. SZA updated her official website with timing details in lieu of a widespread social media blast. In the wake of her fandom’s response to the initial delays, the singer said she would be pulling back from her previous off-the-cuff interactions with them.
“I used to think sharing snippets, personal info + music tea would build connection but it actually just made ppl entitled ungrateful and disrespectful,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter) last month. “It’s time to restore the boundary.”
The statement came just over a week after SZA teased the additional Lana tracks with a fiery trailer on social media. The clip previewed a new collaboration with Jay Versace, the producer who pushed her to embrace a more aggressive approach in her music during sessions for SOS. “Look I might really be that bitch/Might really got that niche/Got a knack for pissing bitches off,” she boasts on the snippet. “Oh, clean nights, don’t need no Smirnoff/My bra’s busting and it’s all off.”
With a 7 p.m. EST release, the new songs will likely be available about an hour or so before SZA takes the stage with Kendrick Lamar as a special guest during the Super Bowl LIX halftime show. “We haven’t even had a chance to crash out about it because everything’s been moving fast,” Lamar recently told Apple Music. “For me personally, watching her and her career with where she comes from, it’s amazing to see.”
