Tori Amos will bring the magic of her debut children’s book, Tori and the Muses, to five cities on her forthcoming book tour.
The musician and author will host reading events in New York; Baltimore; Naperville, IL; Corte Madera, California; and Los Angeles in March. The book is set for release on March 4 via Penguin Workshop/Penguin Young Readers. Tickets are on sale now.
“Tori and the Muses features a child with a very special secret: the eleven Muses who have guided her artistic pursuits since she was a baby,” a summary reads. “Unhappy when her father forces her to rehearse for music recitals, the Muses remind Tori that inspiration is everywhere, and perhaps in helping others find their own Muses she may better understand herself. Filled with joy, curiosity, and imagination, this debut picture book will inspire, encourage, and most importantly, remind young readers to find inspiration in the things they love.”
With illustrations from Demelsa Haughton, Tori and the Muses was inspired by Amos’ own childhood creative journey. “The muses in my life, little Tori’s life, have always been there since I can remember. I think I remember then more than anything and so, they’re true to me,” she shared in a video statement last week. “And in the book, I wanted to share their influence and their acceptance of little exploring musically, creatively. What I’m hoping this book brings to children and families who read it is that muses really do exist.”
Amos continued: “I believe that and I’m aware that some people haven’t found theirs yet and sometimes people will say to me, ‘But I try to go out and find the muses you talk about.’ But you don’t want to find the ones I’m talking about. I’m interested in yours. I want to know how you get inspired. They will be uniquely your own and I believe that deep, deep in my heart that they exist for everybody. Trust your muses.”
