Halsey went all out in their planning: they dyed their hair blue, kicked Joe Jonas off the guest list, and scrapped an appearance from a child choir singer performing “Hallelujah.” Come to find out, they didn’t actually need to do any of it. See, Halsey was under the impression that she was dying after she received a dual diagnosis of lupus and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in 2022. Her most recent album, The Great Impersonator, is all about that. So she planned her funeral. Now, in a comedic teaser trailer, they trade their casket for some concerts as their focus shifts to planning a tour.
Halsey will kick off the For My Last Trick tour in May with 32 dates scheduled through July. The musician will be joined on select dates by Del Water Gap, the Warning, Evanescence, Alvvays, Hope Tala, Sir Chloe, Royel Otis, Flowerovlove, Magdalena Bay, and Alemeda. An artist resale will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. local time with additional presales running throughout the week. General onsale will begin on Friday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. local time.
The tour marks Halsey’s first since 2022’s Love and Power tour, which made 32 stops across six legs. In a Tumblr post from November, they mused about falling back into the regular flow of life after thinking theirs was ending. “Maybe I’ll hide again until a tour when the sun comes back. Maybe I won’t make a sound. Maybe I’ll sleep. Maybe I’ll choose different this time with my restart to zero, my bonus life I pulled from a box. And pull from a box with a needle every 3 weeks,” she wrote. “Maybe maybe maybe. Maybe I fixed everything so I could do this one thing again, without realizing that one thing was what needed fixing. I am tired and I forgot how to have fun.”
These ideas coat the content of The Great Impersonator, written largely under the assumption that it would be her last. “There’s a constant tension between the playful wit in the music and the sluggish gloom of the vocals,” Rolling Stone‘s Rob Sheffield wrote in a review of the record. “But the best moments on The Great Impersonator come when the music wins out. Playing around with the past seems to shake up her imagination — and point her toward the future.”
