This Grocery Store Is Keeping Its Egg Prices Low Amid Cost Rises

While shoppers continue to scramble for affordable eggs amid rising costs, one grocery chain is saying “Beat it!” to high price tags by keeping their prices low.

East Coast grocery store chain Wegmans, which has stores located in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Washington, D.C., is known for its customer service and high-quality produce, meats and other grocery selections.

But now Wegmans wants to be known for committing to keeping its prices low for customers, even as prices continue to rise at grocery store shelves nationwide.

One of the hardest hit items over the past few months has been our favorite breakfast and baking staple: eggs.

MSN reports that, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, egg prices have skyrocketed from an average of $3.65 in November 2024 to $5.29 in mid-January 2025.

But Wegmans isn’t ready to crack just yet when it comes to its relatively low prices.

A message on the company’s website reads: “With supply fluctuating nationwide, prices are rising due to avian bird influenza and strong demand. Our New York state supplier takes every precaution to ensure its flocks stay healthy, and while prices will continue to shift, we are committed to keeping our prices competitive.”

As of publishing, Wegmans’ cheapest offering is their Wegmans brand Organic Large Brown Eggs, Cage Free dozen, which costs $4.99 per carton per the company’s website.

According to the Financial Times, the egg pricing surge shows “no signs of slowing” anytime soon as a contagious avian flu (HPAI) outbreak continues to decimate egg-laying hen populations at farms across the country, sparking nationwide shortages.

Many grocery chains have implemented per-customer purchasing restrictions on eggs, and some restaurants, such as Waffle House, have even added additional surcharges for dishes containing eggs.
