Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are taking their romantic chemistry to the studio. On Thursday, Gomez and Blanco announced that they’ll release a collaborative album, I Said I Love You First, on March 21, as they shared its first single, “Scared of Loving You,” Thursday.
“I always trick you guys 🥰 my NEW album I Said I Love You First with my best friend @itsbennyblanco, is out on 3/21,” she wrote on Instagram. “Our first song, Scared of Loving You is out now… We can’t wait to share this special project with you soon!”
Blanco added in his own Instagram post: “I can’t believe I get to spend the rest of my life with you.”
On “Scared of Loving You,” which Gomez and Blanco wrote with Finneas, the pop star sings about her relationship anxieties and fears. “If I lose my shit, promise not to laugh/If I throw a fit and get photographed,” Gomez sings. “Would you take my side?/Would you hold my hand?/If they sell a lie, don’t let them send me back.” (Finneas and Blanco co-produced the record.)
The pair accompanied the single with a lyric video featuring clips of the two giggling with each other and sharing kisses in a bedroom. It’s unclear how many songs will be featured on the LP, although Gomez and Blanco did share a preorder link for a single-LP vinyl version of the album.
According to a press release, the LP will celebrate “the pair’s love story” on the album. “It chronicles their entire story — before they met, falling in love and looking to what the future holds,” reads a press release about the LP.
I Said I Love You First follows Gomez’s 2020 album, Rare. On the deluxe version of Rare, she opens the album by manifesting in its immediate first lyric: “I want a boyfriend.” For his part, Blanco released his last album, a collaborative two-part LP titled Friends Keep Secrets and Friends Keep Secrets 2, in 2018 and 2021, respectively. The pair of projects included “Lonely” with Justin Bieber, “Eastside” with Halsey and Khalid, and “Graduation” with the late Juice WRLD.
