“I hope to be released and well tomorrow so I’m able to perform,” singer says after canceling the first of two shows in Lima
Shakira was forced to postpone her show in Lima, Peru tonight, Feb. 16, after suffering from an “abdominal issue” that landed her in the ER and kept her hospitalized on Sunday.
“I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized,” she said in a statement written in English and Spanish on her social media accounts on Sunday afternoon. “The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening.
“I am very sad to not be able to take the stage today,” she continued. “I’ve been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru.”
The Colombian star was slated to perform the first of her two-night stint at Estadio Nacional in Lima on Sunday. Currently, her second night in Lima scheduled for Monday is still slated to commence.
“I hope to be released and well tomorrow so I’m able to perform,” she added. “My team and promoters are already working on a new date to communicate to you. Thank you all for understanding, I love you all.”
Shakira is in the midst of her world tour in support of her first album in seven years, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, which arrived last March. In October, she pushed back the U.S. leg of the tour from last year to 2025 with arena and stadium dates in order to accommodate the demand. Following her Latin American dates, the tour heads to the U.S. beginning on May 13 in Charlotte, North Carolina at Bank of America Stadium and wraps on June 30 at Oracle Park in San Francisco.
Shakira discussed her tour plans ahead of the run during her Rolling Stone cover story from last summer, where she revealed the concerts would “be the longest” of her career, exceeding two hours — and according to setlist.fm, she made good on her promise on the shows she’s played so far. She also homed in on the set list, analyzing arrangements and more. “Preparing a show is one of the most intricate, complex things I can do as an artist,” she told Rolling Stone.
