Neil Young Announces ‘Coastal’ Live Album Documenting 2023 Solo Tour

Daryl Hannah-directed documentary of same name will have one-night-only nationwide screening on April 17, a day before soundtrack arrives

Neil Young has announced a new live album, Coastal: The Soundtrack, focusing on performances from his 2023 solo tour.

Coastal, a documentary directed by Young’s wife Daryl Hannah about that 2023 trek, premiered at the Woodstock Film Festival last year, with a one-night-only nationwide screening planned for this April 17.

The soundtrack — out the following day, April 18, and available to preorder now — serves as a companion album to that film, featuring 11 songs from Young’s songbook stripped down to vocals, piano, and guitar. Among the Young classics reimagined for the soundtrack include “Vampire Blues,” “I Am a Child,” “Expecting to Fly,” and “Comes a Time,” while lesser-played Crazy Horse tracks like “Song X” and “Prime of Life” were also revisited and played solo.

2025 is shaping up to be an active year for Young as he’ll embark on his Love Earth Tour across North America and Europe that includes a headlining stop at Glastonbury and a just-announced London’s Hyde Park show. Young has also shared the single “Big Change” from his first album with the new band the Chrome Hearts, Talkin’ to the Trees, due out this year.
