Oh My Gosh It’s Happening!

Yellowstone looks ready to repeat itself. That may not be a good thing for fans of 1923.

During Season 2, Episode 2 of 1923, Spencer Dutton seems set to begin a land voyage from Texas to Montana as his wife Alexandra continues her journey by sea to America. Open a map and chart his course to Bozeman. It may look familiar.

• Season 2, Episode 2 of 1923 begins streaming on Paramount+ on Sunday (March 2).
• The show is the second Yellowstone prequel, following 1883.

Find pictures of Episode 2, titled “The Rapist Is Winter,” below. While most are just scene-setting shots, several demand answers. For example, who is that dark-haired man in the nice suit?

Spoilers are coming, so be warned if you’re not caught up.

Dutton Rules podcast host Billy Dukes put each photo under a microscope and compared them to what we learned from Episode 1. The result is a staggering coincidence.

The dark-haired man is almost surely the cousin Luca referred to as Spencer was trying to save his life on the ship deck. The Italian mentioned two names, and as it turns out, both are real-life characters. Salvatore and Rosario Maceo led the Maceo Organization out of Galveston for decades. Basically, they were Texas mobsters.

While that’s interesting, it’s not most interesting.

To get to Montana, Spencer will need to travel north through Texas into Oklahoma, Kansas and Wyoming. He’s basically going to take the same route his father took in 1883, and maybe even meet some of the same characters.

Watch the video above to see who we’re talking about and remember, that journey north was a tragedy for James Dutton and family. Spencer’s trip could end happily, but it hardly seems likely.
