The pair released a Grammy-winning joint album, 44/876, in 2018
Shaggy and Sting appeared on The Tonight Show to perform their latest collaborative single, “Til a Mawnin.” The pair were joined by a live band and two back-up singers for the upbeat performance, which paid homage to reggae music.
The musicians dropped “Til a Mawnin” last month. The track was written by Shaggy, Sting, and Henry “Junjo” Lawes, and was produced by Shaggy and Shane Hoosong. It re-imagines Lawes’ 1981 “I’m Not Getting Crazy” riddim, which has been the foundation for several classic reggae tunes.
Shaggy and Sting previously teamed up for a collaborative album, 44/876, in 2018. The album won Best Reggae Album at the 61st Grammy Awards. At the time Sting explained of the unexpected pairing, “I think surprise is always the most important element in all music. You don’t want to just go with people’s expectations. You always want to surprise them. I listen to music expecting a surprise within eight measures.”
The late-night performance comes ahead of Shaggy and Sting co-headlining the Reggae Rise Up Festival in St. Petersburg, Florida, on March 13. The festival will take place in Vinoy Park from March 13-16, and will also feature Rebelution, Stephen Marley, and Soja.
Elsewhere on The Tonight Show, Shaggy and Sting appeared during host Jimmy Fallon‘s monologue to respond to the latest news headline with their lyrics.
