Chet’s Something Out West country project drops visual for “You Better Run”
Chet Hanks linked with his legendary father Tom in the music video for “You Better Run,” a single crafted by Something Out West, the tandem of Chet and Drew Arthur. Throughout the three-minute video, Che reprises Tom Hanks’ role as Forrest Gump in scenes inspired from the movie. He reenacts the iconic scene of Gump on the bench, alongside Tom Hanks, and has other scenes featuring him running cross-country and singing on a boat in a nod to Gump’s shrimping boat, “Jenny.”
While Hanks first gained infamy as rapper Chet Haze, the “white boy summer” flagbearer, but he’s now collaborating with his friend Drew Arthur on Something Out West, a country duo that signed to Big Machine Records in February.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Big Machine and Scott Borchetta,” Hanks has said about the signing. “The support they’ve shown for [Something Out West’s debut single] ‘Leaving Hollywood’ and the rest of the music has been incredible. Drew and I have been making music together for a long time, and we feel really proud to have a home at Big Machine for this upcoming project.” Something Out West’s debut album is due later this year.
Hanks and Arthur grew close through their shared sobriety, growing a bond as roommates that expanded into music. Of their debut single “Leaving Hollywood,” Arthur has said, “I wrote ‘Leaving Hollywood’ five years ago, but it feels like the timing and the way we’re releasing it were always meant to be. We’re excited for people to hear what we’ve been working on.”
Chet recently celebrated three years of sobriety, and told US magazine that sobriety means “everything” to him. “If I wasn’t sober, none of these opportunities would even be possible,” adding, “My advice is if you think you might have a problem, then you do have a problem. Because if you’re thinking about it, the chances are that you can make a change and you just need to stop thinking and just do it.”
