“I wrote this as a way to believe in myself again and quit being scared to do what I want,” Danielle Haim explained
Haim shared a reflective new single, “Everybody’s Trying to Figure Me Out.” Danielle Haim called the pensive track her “favorite song we’ve written in the last couple years.”
“Writing it has gotten me through some hard times, and we felt this might be of some use to get our vibes right for this summer!” she wrote on Instagram. “I started writing this after a panic attack I had the night I got home from tour. I was very confused because I was SO SO SO happy about our incredible tour, but something about being alone with myself scared the shit out of me.”
She continued, “After a lot of reflecting I realized I’ve let a lot of people try and tell me how I should live my life, but I realized in making everyone else happy, I lost myself. I wrote this as a way to believe in myself again and quit being scared to do what I want. I hope this finds anyone who needs it.”
“Everybody’s Trying to Figure Me Out” follows the Los Angeles trio’s recent song, “Relationships,” which arrived last month. Both will appear on the band’s forthcoming fourth LP, which has yet to be titled. It was produced by Rostam Batmanglij. Haim’s most recent album, Women in Music Pt. III, arrived nearly five years ago.
Alana Haim recently told I-D their new album is “the closest we’ve ever gotten to how we wanted to sound.” She added that it was a “completely different experience” recording than on past albums. Danielle added, “Working with Rostam, in general it’s very quick, kinetic with him, which I really love as an artist.”
Last month, Danielle collaborated with Bon Iver on SABLE, fABLE track, “If Only I Could Wait.” Frontman Justin Vernon called the song, “A duet. A bilateral crying question. How long can the two of us hang on to each other?”
