Finneas recorded a three-song bundle, featuring new renditions of For Cryin’ Out Loud tracks, for Apple Music in Nashville
Who better than Kacey Musgraves to bring Finneas into the Nashville headspace? On Monday, Apple Music debuted the singer’s Nashville-recorded, 3-song bundle that included a duet of “Giver / Taker” from her recent album, Deeper Well.
The performance video opens with the pair joking about breaking guitars and Finneas having an “empathy crisis” if he ever smashed his instrument. For the rendition, Musgraves kicked off the first verse, before sharing lines in the chorus with Finneas. (The duo jokingly called themselves rebels for performing the track without in-ears.)
“Sunrise and you’re lying next to me/Wrap me in your arms like I’m made of glass,” sang Finneas in the second verse as the two strummed their guitars. “I need all your love, not just one piece/Hopin’ that it ain’t too much for me to ask.”
The cover of the Deeper Well track was part of a three-song EP — titled Apple Music Nashville Sessions — Finneas recorded in Spatial Audio. It also featured new, studio renditions of “Starfucker” and “Same Old Story,” two non-singles from the musician’s alt-rock album For Cryin’ Out Loud! from last October. “His second solo album, For Cryin’ Out Loud, is the solid work of a versatile popcraft guy,” read a Rolling Stone review of the record.
As for Musgraves, her last album, Deeper Well, was expanded to a 21-track deluxe edition in October, including collabs with Leon Bridges and Tiny Habits. She also recently released a limited-edition Deeper Well “complete edition” vinyl record to celebrate the LP, which included “The Architect,” “Too Good to Be True,” and “Jade Green.”
