Lana Del Rey Shares Intimate Ballad ‘Bluebird’

Lana Del Rey has shared a new single, “Bluebird.” The acoustic, country-inspired ballad was written by Del Rey and Luke Laird. They produced the single together with Drew Erickson.

“Little bird, bluebird/ Fly away for both of us,” Del Rey croons on the emotional track. “For you have wings and I’ve no means to fly/ Little bird, bluebird/ Find some strength inside my hand/ Anything to let you sing goodbye.”

The song marks Del Rey’s second release of the year after her recent single, “Henry, Come On.” Both will appear on Del Rey’s upcoming album, originally titled Lasso, then The Right Person Will Stay, and set for May 21. Last week, the singer clarified that she would be changing the title again and pushing the release date.

“You know it’s not going to come on time, right?” Del Rey asked at the end of an Instagram Reel about kicking off this album cycle. “Should I even tell you that the name changed again? Should I tell you that now, while you’re so happy that you even have a song? Yeah, maybe I’ll wait.”

“Henry, Come On” was the first actual glimpse Del Rey had given into the sonic landscape of her 10th studio album. Since February 2024, the singer has been teasing a country-inspired project that was supposed to be released last fall. At a Billboard pre-Grammy event, Del Rey detailed the original album concept, saying “If you can’t already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country… We’re going country. It’s happening. That’s why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years.”

Last August, Del Rey clarified her sonic vision for the album in an interview with Vogue. “All my albums are somewhat rooted in Americana… so I don’t think it will be a heavy departure,” she told the magazine. “If anything, it will just be a little lighter lyrically, and more pointed in a classic country, American, or Southern Gothic production — which again, so many of my songs already are,” the singer added.

Del Rey is scheduled to perform at Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California, on April 25. She is also set to tour in the U.K. and Ireland this summer, with stops in London, Dublin, Liverpool, Glasgow, and Cardiff.

She recently told fans of playing Stagecoach for the first time, “It’s not lost on me about how amazing it is that we got to headline Coachella last year and that we get to sing at the top of the night at Stagecoach on the smaller stage this year. My band is so excited. I’m really excited, and I’m really happy for this album to be moving along.”
