Bad Bunny simmers in scorching heartbreak on his latest video for “Bokete,” the ninth track from his sixth album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, which dropped in January.
The video sees the global superstar talking, walking along the beach, dining, and dancing with himself as he sings about a lost love and regret. At one point, the Puerto Rican artist addresses the camera and declares in Spanish: “Time to move on, let it go, and forget, and later on, if we need to fall in love again, we’ll fall in love.”
In a statement prior to the release of the album, Bad Bunny shared that the LP was “dedicated to all the Puerto Ricans in the entire world.” He released a precursor short film for DTMF, which highlighted a gentrified, changed Puerto Rico, featuring filmmaker Jacobo Morales. “There was something special here. I don’t know what it was, but it was an incredible magic,” he said of the island.
A Rolling Stone review of the album, hailed it as a “triumphant homecoming with 17 songs that traverse Puerto Rico’s rich kaleidoscope of genres.” “It’s homegrown, jubilant, and fresh as Benito takes the best moments from Un Verano Sin Ti and pushes the limits of his continuously experimental sound into the unchartered territory of Puerto Rican folk music and salsa,” wrote writer Maya Georgi. “While Bad Bunny honors his homeland and snapshots of his life there, he finds pieces of himself that felt lost just a year ago: the love-lorn poet, the dreamer, and, most of all, the proud puertorriqueño.”
Next month, Bad Bunny is set to appear as musical guest alongside host Scarlett Johansson for Saturday Night Live‘s Season 50 finale on May 17. This will be his third time on the show, as the singer made his official debut in 2021, where he performed “La Noche de Anoche” with Rosalía and “Te Deseo Lo Mejor.” In 2023, he took on both hosting and performance duties as he showcased songs from Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va Pasar Mañana.
