The musician will release her fifth LP, Sincerely, on May 9
Kali Uchis dropped a new single, “ILYSMIH.” It is the second listen off her forthcoming fifth studio album, Sincerely, out May 9 via Capitol Records.
The intimate ballad was inspired by “the profound experience of motherhood and immeasurable love for her child,” according to a press release. On the track, Uchis sings: “All the world is crazy, but you’re here/ My baby made me realize/ That nothing else even matters/ Oh, I love you so much it hurts.”
“’ILYSMIH’ is me sharing a piece of my heart with the world,” Uchis said in a statement. “Living a life that is rich in love and inner peace hasn’t come easy. I hope this song will find anyone who needs it.”
The song follows Uchis’ recent single, “Sunshine & Rain,” which heralded her new era of music. She announced Sincerely in March with a witchy video she dropped on social media as well as letter she e-mailed to her fans.
“I know I’ve been distant, but we’ll each other again sooner than you think,” she promised. In the letter she explained that she would now be signed to Capitol Records following their merger with Interscope. She added that she is still working with the same team behind her last two albums, Red Moon in Venus and Orquídeas. “Thank you all for the well-intentioned wishes on this journey, and thank you to my team,” she said in the letter. “I have boundless gratitude for my silent ascent throughout the years and am very much looking forward to what’s next.”
Uchis released her second Spanish-language album Orquídeas in January of last year. The song spun off the hit “Igual Que Un Ángel” with Peso Pluma. A few months later, she and her partner Don Toliver had their first child together. She was nominated for Best Latin Pop Album at the Grammys this year.
Earlier this month, Uchis made a surprise appearance at Coachella to join Jennie during her set. The duo performed their collaborative track “Damn Right.”
