Maren Morris appeared on The Tonight Show to perform her recent song, “Too Good,” and to chat with host Jimmy Fallon about her new album.
Morris took the late-night show stage with an elaborate set that evoked a mountainside home, singing the tune from behind a faux booze-covered bar alongside her band. The song sees the country musician crooning about a relationship conundrum: “Too good to leave, too bored to stay/ That’s how the people that love me behave/ It’s too bad it’s taken me this long to say/ I was always too good for your ass anyway.”
“Too Good” appears on Morris’ new album, Dreamsicle, out now via Columbia Records. The LP is her fourth full-length album and her first since 2022’s Humble Quest. It features all five songs from her 2024 EP Intermission. She spoke to Fallon about recording the songs with producer Jack Antonoff at Electric Lady Studios in New York City.
“I had never written or recorded in New York my entire career,” she said. “It was always Nashville or LA. And then getting to work at Electric Lady was just such a time. Like, in the summer. It’s just stunning.” She added that she once saw Michael Stipe on the studio’s rooftop. “I would just see the most amazing people come in and out,” Morris said.
Morris explained that the LP has a ’70s vibe because she was “listening to a lot of stuff my mom would play in the house,” including Fleetwood Mac. “So it was sort of this dance-y meets Laurel Canyon vibe,” she noted.
Morris will be touring in support of Dreamsicle throughout the summer. The trek will kick off on May 30 in West Hollywood with dates scheduled in North America through Sept. 26. The tour includes stops in New York, San Diego, Los Angeles, Jacksonville, St. Louis, Virginia Beach, Nashville, Atlanta, and more. In November, Morris will begin the European leg of the tour with appearances in Dublin, Manchester, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, and more.
“Dreamsicle felt like it was already translating itself to a live environment while I was writing the album,” Maren shared in a statement. “The acoustics, layers of harmonies, stacked synthesizers against raw vocals; it was coming to life in the studio without an audience, so I’m very excited to finally allow these songs to hit the air and feel them amplified by the energy of a crowd. It’ll be a dreamy experience all around for fans and for myself.”
