Renee Rapp Shares New Single ‘Leave Me Alone’

The musician’s first release in two years takes jabs at her departure from the recently-cancelled HBO Max series Sex Lives of College Girls and her label chasing her down for new music

Renée Rapp has secrets to spill on her new single “Leave Me Alone.” The track marks her first lead release since her debut album Snow Angel arrived two years ago, and the record catches up with the musician as she embraces a carefree state of mind with an edge of chaos.

On the record, Rapp takes jabs at her departure from the recently-cancelled HBO Max series Sex Lives of College Girls and her label chasing her down for new music. “Signed a hundred NDAs but I still say something/Leave me alone, bitch, I wanna have fun/Took my sex life with me, now the show ain’t fuckin’,” she sings over banging percussion and blaring guitars. “Can I tell you a secret/I’m so sick of it all.”

Rapp left Sex Lives after two seasons to focus on her music career. The series was cancelled following the conclusion of its third season. By that point, the singer had already moved on to headlining tours in support of Snow Angel, packed festival sets, and a lead role in the film adaptation of Mean Girls: the Musical.

At one point in her career, Rapp was overwhelmed with opportunity and the responsibilities that came with saying yes. “Everything happens at fucking once,” she told Rolling Stone in 2023 about the rush of writing her first album in between 14-hour set days. “I overextended myself. But I’m glad I did. I’m not big into regrets.” With “Leave Me Alone,” she’s learning that somethings prioritizing play over work isn’t always a bad thing.

She’s also proving that she can do both. “Leave Me Alone” arrives ahead of Rapp’s debut performance at the American Music Awards, airing live from the Fountainbleau Las Vegas via CBS, and streaming on Paramount+, on Monday, May 26.

Rapp is back and she’s louder, feistier, and more unhinged than ever heading into her second album era.
