The singer revealed an early breast cancer diagnosis earlier this month
In one slide of Jessie J‘s recent 16-part photo dump on Instagram, the singer watched back a clip from her performance at Capital’s Summertime Ball. On stage at Wembley Stadium in London, she told the audience, “This show is my last show before I go and beat breast cancer.” Revisiting the moment from her hospital bed, she joked, “Look a bit different, innit?” Jessie is recovering at home from surgery now, but wanted to share a glimpse into her battle with the diagnosis she revealed earlier this month.
“This post is some of the honest lows and highs of the last 48 hours,” she wrote in the post caption. “I will always show the good and hard bits of any journey I go through. Grateful to my doctor / surgeon and all the nurses who cared for me and all my family / friends who came to visit. I am home now, to rest and wait for my results. Chanan is in a nurse outfit. No no, he isn’t, but funny to imagine. Still hugging everyone going through something tough right now. We all got this!”
The carousel of images and videos Jessie shared captured sweet moments with her son and her partner Chanan Safir Colman, as well as more emotional instances. In one, she cries at the thought of imagining hearing her son say he loves her and not being able to say it back. In another, she explains the tubing system that drains blood and fluid from her breasts to him.
The post-surgery recovery period will allow Jessie to truly slow down and process the moment. When she revealed her diagnosis, she mentioned that she was “not processing it because I’m working so hard.” In a separate post shared earlier this month, she looked back on a live performance before which she had undergone several breast biopsies in private. “I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories,” she said. “I’m an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse, that’s the bit that kills me.”
