Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have ended their engagement, officially calling it quits after nine years together. People confirmed the news, which was first reported by TMZ.
Speculation about their relationship began swirling recently, after it was reported that Bloom was set to attend Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s wedding alone. Neither Perry nor Bloom has commented on the status of their relationship; their reps did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The pair first met at a Golden Globes afterparty in 2016 while fighting over a burger. “I met my boyfriend over In-N-Out. We were at the Golden Globes and we weren’t together,” Perry previously shared. “So I had my security guard grab 10 In-N-Outs and all of a sudden I see my boyfriend’s hand — he wasn’t even sitting at our table — he just swoops in and he grabs it and I was like, ‘Hey that’s my burger!’”
Though the couple briefly split in 2017, they reunited just one year later.
When discussing his role as the title character in a revival of the play Killer Joe in 2018, Bloom called Perry a “remarkable human being.” As the Pirates of the Caribbean star is a “little older” than the singer, he told The Times that he “wasn’t someone overly familiar with her artistic endeavours” when they crossed paths for the first time.
“And, you know, when you get hit sideways, you get hit sideways. You don’t pick who you fall in love with,” he told the outlet. “We had a really remarkable connection. And it’s difficult. She’s on tour, I’m doing a play, everything evolves. I have a lot of respect for her and a lot of deep feeling. So we will see.”
In 2019, the duo revealed that they were engaged. “It was very sweet,” Perry told late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. “It was Valentine’s Day … we went to dinner and I thought we were going to go see some art after dinner, but we pulled up to a helicopter.” She added, “We landed on a rooftop [in Los Angeles] — my whole family was there, and all my friends. He did so well.”
In August 2020, the couple welcomed their daughter, Daisy Dove. (Bloom is also dad to son Flynn, 14, with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.)
