“That was a first and hopefully a last,” Rimes said on Instagram of her dental mishap
LeAnn Rimes experienced a very unusual first in her career: her teeth popped out while performing mid-concert. After the incident, she addressed what happened on Instagram, stating, “This is the most epic example of how the show must go on.”
Rimes was performing at the Skagit Casino Resort in Washington earlier this week when she felt a “pop” on stage. She was singing her 1996 hit “One Way Ticket” when her front dental bridge fell out. The singer went backstage to adjust before finishing the rest of the show.
“If you’ve been around, you know I’ve had a lot of dental surgeries and I have a bridge in the front, and it fell out in the middle of my song last night,” Rimes said in an Instagram video addressing the incident. She spent the rest of the show attempting to push them back in but by “Can’t Fight the Moonlight,” her teeth fully fell out, she revealed.
“There wasn’t a fucking thing I could do about it except either walk off or just hold my teeth in and sing, so I just ran with it,” she said. “The show can go on, even in the midst of sheer, utter embarrassment. You just gotta be real with people.”
Rimes’ dental troubles have been long-documented. According to Billboard, the singer has had around 29 dental surgeries due to botched dental work. In 2013, she filed a malpractice lawsuit against her former dentist due to chronic pain and complications from her veneers.
“I don’t usually have firsts in my career, but that was a first and hopefully a last,” she said while laughing in the video. She gave a playful warning to the front row of her next show: “If you catch them, please return them.”
