Jack White Gets His First-Ever Cellphone for His 50th Birthday

The musician celebrated his birthday on Wednesday by tapping into the 21st century

Jack White finally owns a cell phone — and it only took him 50 years to get one. The musician celebrated his milestone birthday on Wednesday by receiving an extra-special gift: his first-ever cell phone. “Well y’all it’s either all over for me now or just the beginning. I am now the reluctant owner of a cellular telephone for the first time in my life,” White wrote in an Instagram post.

The musician revealed that his wife and fellow musician, Olivia Jean, gave him the cell phone. He shared several photos taken by Jean, showing White awkwardly holding an iPhone, looking utterly perplexed and unsure how to hanlde the device.

“I’ve been saying that my days were numbered for years,” White said in the caption, explaining that as the modern world continues to depend on smartphones, it was time for him to join the 21st century. “Can’t listen to my music in my car, can’t park at a parking lot by myself because of QR codes, etc. etc. and I guess Olivia decided to be kind and put me (and all my loved ones) out of my misery,” he wrote.

White finished his caption with the most hipster-inclined quote ever: “I thought if I could make it to 50 years old at least without ever having one that I could be proud of myself, and I am. Can’t wait to talk to you all soon. My phone number is the square root of all of our combined social interaction times Pi.”

Who knows, maybe we’ll get Jack White selfies next?
