Weeks after her red Cadillac suffered a viral malfunction, the singer resumes performing the track on a golden horse
Beyoncé’s “16 Carriages” made its grand return to the Cowboy Carter Tour Thursday, weeks after a performance of the track left the singer suspended over the crowd in a malfunctioning red car.
“16 Carriages” — the tour’s usual penultimate song and one of the concert’s major set pieces — featured Beyoncé cruising over the audience as she delivers the concert’s penultimate track in the suspended vehicle. During a Houston gig on June 28, however, the car stalled, tilted, and swayed, causing Beyoncé to pause mid-song and alert the crew. She hovered over the crowd for a few minutes before the car was slowly lowered into an aisleway on the floor, where Beyoncé disembarked.
Following the viral incident, Beyoncé removed “16 Carriages” from the setlist for her next three concerts, but the Cowboy Carter track was back in its usual slot Thursday for the singer’s Atlanta concert, albeit with one significant change: Instead of riding around the stadium in a glittering red Cadillac, Beyoncé instead sat atop a golden mechanical horse that galloped over the crowd as she delivered the track.
In its maiden voyage, the floating horse executed flawlessly, floating smoothly and incident-free over the Mercedes-Benz Stadium audience, and safely returning Beyoncé to the stage where she completed the performance.
The singer and her new horse have two more shows scheduled in Atlanta, Friday and Sunday night, before the Cowboy Carter Tour moves to Las Vegas later this month.
