Gray’s “This Song” love story takes a sad turn in the new single’s video
Not all love stories end with a happy kiss. On Friday, Conan Gray released the video for “Vodka Cranberry,” the second single from his album Wishbone, which captures the seeming end of his and Corey Fogelmanis’ love story, as told in the lead single “This Song.”
The Danica Kleinknecht-directed video opens with Gray reflecting on the relationship and how his man’s feelings are not the same: “I wish it could be us for just a little bit longer,” he states.
The video follows the pair on a road trip after their feelings for each other have clearly changed, while they try to make the most of their time together. The song opens with Gray singing about how he’s noticed that his boyfriend is treating him differently after taking a break.
“Speak up/Don’t leave me waiting/Got way too drunk off a vodka cranberry/Called you up in the middle of the night/Wailing like an imbecile,” sings Gray in the chorus. “If you won’t end things/Then I will.”
In the visual, Gray and Fogelmanis struggle to see eye-to-eye. At one point, they arrive at a bar where they share a drink and begin to lighten up. However, the mood shifts when Gray notices Fogelmanis’ eyes wandering before he walks away to play pool with a girl at the bar.
The video features a mix of sweet moments between the pair, spliced with scenes of them arguing outside the bar. It ends with Fogelmanis seemingly driving off, leaving Gray to realize Fogelmanis is no longer there.
The new song will be featured on his upcoming LP, Wishbone, which drops Aug. 15. Gray wrote the song, which was produced by Dan Nigro, who produced Gray’s first two albums, Kid Krow and Superache.
