Duo release second single from new album out Aug. 8.
Roc Marciano and DJ Premier have released “Prayer Hands,” the second single from their upcoming The Coldest Profession album. On the two-minute track, Roc gets busy over some classic Premier chops, rhyming, “I’m like Magic/I can shoot it or pass it/ became a legend because everything I’m doin’ is rooted in passion” on the minimalist beat.
“Roc always makes sure to never go in the direction of the expected types. He brags, without bragging. He shows off, without showing off,” Premier, who’s embarking on his He’s The Preemo I’m The Chemist tour with the Alchemist this winter, said in a press release. “If that does not make sense, then you’re not what we want in our league of pure style. That’s the definition of ‘Prayer Hands.’ Explanations are not needed.”
The track follows “Armani Section,” the first single from their project, which they paired with a video shot in Los Angeles. Roc Marciano said the POE-directed visual, like the song, is a “gutter and expensive” introduction to their upcoming project. The title details the project’s genesis. “True Story: Several years ago I was shopping at Macy’s in Herald Square and I was passing the ‘Armani Section,’ when I see Roc Marci there and he asks me when are we gonna do a record together,” Premier said in a statement. “I told him we would eventually get to it. Fast forward a few years later, right before Christmas 2024, I gave him a call and told him it was time to get to it. I reminded him of that day, and he said that should be the title of the record. The tone was officially set.”
The Coldest Profession will be released independently on Aug. 8. The track list for the project is below.
