Singer Ingrid Andress wrote songs called “Coldplay” and “Blue Genes,” but before you roll your eyes thinking she’s trying to make something out of someone else’s viral moment, listen to the full story.
The “Wishful Drinking” singer wrote “Coldplay” before a kiss-cam video from the rock group’s concert exposed a cheating CEO.
She wrote “Blue Genes” before American Eagle and Sydney Sweeney partnered for an ad campaign that has offended many.
We’ll explain in a moment, but first, here are a few song titles we’d like Andress to consider:
- “George Strait for President”
- “Money Grows on Trees”
- “They Cured Cancer”
Andress brought her soothsaying ways to the public’s attention last Friday (Aug. 1) with a post to Instagram. She’s been off the grid in a lot of ways recently, but she has been writing songs “in my cave,” she explains.
“I wrote a song called ‘Blue Genes’ and ‘Coldplay’ months ago and now it’s like the only thing that people are talking about now,” Andress shares. Behind her is a tracklist for some upcoming project, and sure enough, those two titles are there.
Need more proof?
On Monday (Aug. 4), she shared the demo for “Blue Genes.” It’s a song about having blue genes, meaning a propensity for sadness.
American Eagle, Sydney Sweeney Controversy Explained
In a new American Eagle advertisement, Sydney Sweeney is wearing blue jeans as the copy claims she has good genes. This has offended some people who believe celebrating a blonde hair, blue-eyed person’s genes is a nod to Nazi Germany.
American Eagle has stood by their message.
Who Is Ingrid Andress?
Andress says nothing of the controversy. In fact, it sounds like she was surprised to see what was happening around her as she buried herself in songwriting.
The 33-year-old singer has scored hits like “Wishful Drinking” with Sam Hunt and “Heart Like Mine.” In 2021 she was a Best New Artist nominee at the Grammys and has been up for similar awards at the ACM and CMA Awards.
This year has been a year of redemption for Andress after she was criticized for her performance of the National Anthem ahead of the 2024 Major League Baseball All Star Game. Immediately afterward, she announced she was entering a rehab facility to address her drinking.
