Hear Pink Floyd Classics in New Trailer

‘David Gilmour Live at the Circus Maximus Rome’ hits theaters Sept. 17

David Gilmour initially resisted playing Pink Floyd classics on his 2024 solo tour — but as seen in the just-released trailer to his new concert film, David Gilmour Live at the Circus Maximus Rome, he quickly changed his mind. “One has to wake up to reality once in a while,” he told Rolling Stone in 2024. “I think I will be doing one or two things from that time, but it just seems so long ago. I know people love them, and I love playing them. I’ll be doing ‘Wish You Were Here,’ of course, I will. And some of the things that started with me anyway.”

Tickets are on sale now for the film, which hits theaters for a limited run Sept. 17. For its home video and audio release Oct. 17, the film will be accompanied by another documentary, the Luck and Strange Concerts, which draws footage from other dates on the tour. Circus Maximus documents a run of shows in Italy from the beginning of his brief tour behind his Luck and Strange album. Gilmour heavily spotlights the new album, but also pulls out Floyd songs from multiple eras of the band.

As he prepared to release Luck and Strange, Gilmour cited it as his favorite album since Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. “It’s a flip statement, really,” he told Rolling Stone at the time. “I mean, it’s not like Dark Side the Moon is even my favorite album. I think I prefer Wish You Were Here. Anyway, it feels to me like it’s the best thing I’ve done in more or less my living memory, because some of those things feel like they were someone else, back in those eons ago. I was in my 30s when Roger Waters left our little pop group, and I’m 78.”
