Diddy Has Reached Out To Donald Trump Over Pardon

Diddy has reached out to Donald Trump in order to try and receive a presidential pardon ahead of his sentencing in October.

While found not guilty of the most serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, a jury still found Diddy guilty of prostitution related offenses.

The two counts of engaging in transportation for prostitution each carry a maximum sentence of ten years in prison.

One of Diddy’s defense team, Nicole Westmoreland, said to CNN that overtures had been made to the president.

“It’s my understanding that we’ve reached out and had conversations in reference to a pardon,” Westmoreland said.

Trump has previously intimated that he would not be willing to pardon Diddy, largely over his criticism of his presidency.

Trump said: “I was very friendly with him, I got along with him great and he seemed like a nice guy. I didn’t know him well. But when I ran for office, he was very hostile.”

He added that pardoning Diddy would be “difficult”.

Diddy will remain in jail until sentencing in October after his appeals for bail were shut down by the judge.

The overseeing judge claims the record executive had failed to prove there are “exceptional” reasons for why he should be released.

Diddy’s history of domestic violence was also cited in the reasoning behind denying him bail.

One person who did support the rapper’s release was an ex-girlfriend by the name of Virginia Huynh, who was originally supposed to be a witness in the trial when she was only referred to as “Victim-3”.

In a letter to the judge, Huynh said he should be allowed bail to “allow him to continue caring for his family and fulfilling his responsibilities while still subject to the Court’s supervision.”

Huynh also detailed her relationship with Diddy: “Our relationship, like many, was not always perfect, we experienced ups and downs, and mistakes were made but he was willing to acknowledge his mistakes and make better decisions in the future.”

She added, “Over the years that followed, he made visible efforts to become a better person and to address the harm he had caused. By the time our relationship ended, he embodied an energy of love, patience and gentleness that was markedly different from his past behavior.”
