McEntire was married to Blackstock’s father, Narvel Blackstock, for 26 years before they split in 2015.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2021, she said she still considered Blackstock “my blood” (quote via People).
“Brandon’s been my son forever it seems,” McEntire said in October 2021, years after her divorce from Narvel. “Although he’s my stepson, I still love him like he’s my total — my blood.”

McEntire’s bond with both Blackstock and his ex-wife, Kelly Clarkson, remained unchanged after they divorced, she says.
“Kelly and I do talk, we text and I love them both, and so I can’t play favorites because I’ve been a friend of Kelly for a long time,” McEntire told ET.
Who Was Brandon Blackstock?
Blackstock was a well-known player in Nashville’s music scene.
Blackstock followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming a high-powered manager whose clients included not only Clarkson, but also Blake Shelton, Rascal Flatts and more.
Blackstock and Clarkson married in October of 2013. She filed for divorce in June of 2020, and they reached a divorce settlement in March of 2022.

Blackstock battled cancer in the last three years of his life. He died on Thursday (Aug. 7) at the age of 48.

It’s not clear if Clarkson and Blackstock were friends after they divorced.
However, they shared two children — daughter River Rose, 10, and son Remington Alexander, 8 — and were committed to co-parenting.
Clarkson revealed on Wednesday (Aug. 6) that she was postponing the dates for her Las Vegas residency as he battled an unspecified illness.
“Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas. While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” she wrote.
“I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding,” Clarkson continued.
Blackstock’s death came after Clarkson had sparked online speculation by missing a number of tapings of her daily talk show in 2025.
