Reba McEntire Breaks Her Silence After Brandon Blackstock Death

Reba McEntire has broken her silence after the death of Brandon Blackstock, her one-time stepson.

The country music superstar hasn’t shared a message to her own social media platforms yet, but she did let the world know she’ll miss him.

  • Brandon Blackstock died on Thursday (Aug. 7) after a 3-year cancer battle.
  • He was the father of Kelly Clarkson’s two kids, River and Remington, as well as two adult children from a previous marriage.
  • A coroner confirmed the case of death as natural causes resulting from cancer.

What Did Reba McEntire Say About Brandon Blackstock?

Reba McEntire’s response came on Monday (Aug. 11). Three days prior, her son Shelby posted an emotional statement to Instagram.

Alongside a carousel of pictures, he described his older half-brother as “an irreplaceable part of our family — funny, bright, and full of life — and he will be deeply missed.”

McEntire’s comment on this post serves as her first and only remembrance to date.

“Very well said Shelby. Yes we will miss him so much,” the singer and Happy’s Place star writes in the comments section of her son’s post, with several emojis.

McEntire hasn’t shared to any of her social media platforms since tributing the late Jeannie Seely on Aug. 1. It’s not clear how close she and Brandon Blackstock remained after her divorce from Narvel.

Is Brandon Blackstock Reba McEntire’s Son?

Brandon Blackstock was Reba McEntire’s stepson, not her biological son. She says she loved and treated him like family during her marriage to Narvel Blackstock.

The talent manager’s birth mother is Narvel Blackstock’s first wife, Elisa Gilbert. Hollywood Life shares that the couple was married from 1973 to 1988.

Kelly Clarkson was Blackstock’s second wife. He was married to (and has two children with) Mellisa Ashworth from 1999 to 2012. She too took to social media to pay him tribute.

“Savannah, Seth, and our grandchildren are the best parts of who Brandon and I are. Thank you all for your prayers and condolences,” she wrote at the end of a touching tribute.

The former music manager didn’t remarry after Clarkson, but his obituary notes his “loving partner in life and business,” Brittney Marie Jones.
