Reba McEntire remembered Brandon Blackstock with a batch of photos that show the pair doing a few things they loved best.
Taking to social media, the singer and actor paid tribute to her 48-year-old former stepson.
It’s clear the relationship meant a great deal to her and she still considered him family after her divorce from his father, Narvel Blackstock.
- Brandon Blackstock died on Thursday, Aug. 7, after a 3-year cancer battle.
- He was the father of Kelly Clarkson’s two kids, River and Remington, as well as two children from a previous marriage.
- Clarkson and Blackstock were married from 2013 to 2022.

Between a pair of pictures of the two posing for a camera, there is a photo of them fishing and another of Blackstock on the farm (her farm?) holding a chicken. All four were snapped several years ago.
“Last week, my stepson/oldest son Brandon Blackstock went home to be with God,” McEntire begins. “His struggle is over and he is in eternal peace in God’s presence.”
Her full statement highlights a quality of Blackstock that others have lingered on, even if the public had no idea.
“There is no one else like him, and I’m thankful for the time we had together,” she continues.
“His legacy and laughter will be carried on through his family. Rest in peace cowboy. Happy trails to you til we meet again.”
Was Brandon Blackstock Married?
Brandon Blackstock was married twice previously, to Melissa Ashworth until 2012 and then to singer Kelly Clarkson. Neither woman is mentioned in his obituary, but another woman is.
Brittney Marie Jones is referred to as his “beautiful and loving partner in life and business” in the remembrance. She was Clarkson’s assistant previously.
Blackstock had four children (two with each wife). Among those listed as survivors in his obit: His kids, siblings, parents, step-parents and grandchildren.
When Is Brandon Blackstock’s Funeral?
Blackstock’s funeral figures to be a private affair. It’s planned for Aug. 17, and all friends and loved ones are invited to join, but they’ll need to get details directly, as location will not be publicized.
In lieu of flowers, mourners are encouraged to donate to the Brandon Blackstock Memorial Fund at the Montana Stockgrowers Foundation.
