Is It Odd Kelly Clarkson Wasn’t In Brandon Blackstock’s Obituary

Kelly Clarkson‘s name doesn’t appear in Brandon Blackstock‘s obituary, and about one-third of people surveyed think that’s strange.

About 50 percent think it’s normal, and the rest of the group (24 percent) say, “Who cares?”

  • Brandon Blackstock died on Aug. 7 after a 3-year cancer battle.
  • He was married to Kelly Clarkson for almost a decade and the couple had two kids, River and Remington.
  • His official cause of death is natural causes.

Taste of Country posted a poll to YouTube. It’s worth noting that neither of Blackstock’s ex-wives are mentioned in the obit, and it’s become clear he was on good terms with one of them.

Kids, grandkids, parents, step-parents and grandparents are all named. His extended family even gets a nod but not Clarkson or Melissa Ashworth, whom he was married to for over a decade prior.

There’s good reasons for it, fans say.

“I sure don’t want my ex in my obituary or vise versa!” one person says.

“Most obituaries don’t mention an ex(es),” adds another.

Conversely, some people believe the decision was short-sighted.

“Out of respect for the children, previous partners should be mentioned. Regardless of who they are or what went down or even who was with them til the end. Let’s the kids grieve properly.”

Who Is Brittney Marie Jones?

In the obituary, Brittney Marie Jones is described as Blackstock’s “loving partner in life and business.” He credits her with helping him build the Valley View Rodeo, a multi-faceted livestock and rodeo enterprise in Bozeman, Mont.

In several tabloid articles she’s also referred to as Clarkson’s ex-assistant. The Sun U.S. did a profile on their business in 2024.

When Is Brandon Blackstock’s Funeral?

Blackstock’s funeral will be a private affair. The obituary at Axelson Funeral Home in Butte, Mont. shares that it’s planned for Aug. 17, and all friends and loved ones are invited to join, but they’ll need to get details privately.

In lieu of flowers, mourners are encouraged to donate to the Brandon Blackstock Memorial Fund at the Montana Stockgrowers Foundation.
