SZA Announced As The First Artistic Director Of Vans

SZA has been announced as the first ever artistic director of iconic footwear and fashion brand, Vans.

As part of a multi-year partnership, SZA will work on campaigns with the brand and co-create her own line of items.

In a statement, the “Kill Bill” singer said: “In Vans, I feel free! I’ve been wearing Knu Skools and other styles for years, they’ve always had an ethos I connect with. As Artistic Director, my mission is to show that joy, community, creativity, and fashion are all still intersectional. That humanity, culture, and connection are still the access points.

“I’ve learned that bravery and curiosity are the cures for uncertainty, it’s a lifestyle and Vans champions that spirit. They stand where I stand, and I’m honored to invite a whole bunch of people to stand Off the Wall with us.”

Vans added: “SZA is a revolutionary artist shaping the emotional tone of a generation. Through her genre-defying sound, she brings authenticity to the forefront, creating space for both softness and powerful expression. She challenges fashion norms and cultural expectations that empower youth to own their story. In her, we see the essence of Off the Wall, an artist who leads with creative intention and self-acceptance, while encouraging others to do the same.”

The first campaign featuring the singer is in aid of Vans’ famous Knu Skool skateboarding shoe.

SZA recently thanked Kendrick Lamar for bringing her along to co-headline their record breaking Grand National tour.

On Instagram Stories, she wrote: “This tour was the craziest most once in a lifetime experience I’ve ever had. Like all my childhood thoughts in one bang… WHAT WAS THAT? Lmao not a lot of words. Thank you to every single person involved that made this happen. Especially Kendrick Lamar.”

SZA also paid tribute to Kendrick while they were on stage together during a stop on the tour in June.

Getting emotional, SZA said: “He put me onto the biggest moment of my life. This is also the biggest moment of my life… I’m so thankful, and I’m so thankful to y’all.”

The two “Luther” collaborators then shared a close hug before continuing to perform.
